A public school teacher and proud father of two children, Lucius Irvin, M.Ed., recently won “Teacher of the Year.” Seeking a solution to the rising number out of school suspensions Lucius began exploring social/emotional support through mindfulness. He won a $10,000 grant through the Great Schools Partnership to get 16 teachers trained in mindfulness, provide workshops for parents and to complete research with the University of Tennessee on the effectiveness of mindfulness in the classroom. He is finishing a year-long mindfulness certification with Mindful Schools. Lucius is continuing his work with young people and families through providing mindfulness programs.
Mindful Us (previously called “Possibilities Exist”) grew out of the need to support families and find solutions to everyday struggles. Today Lucius not only supports families but also helps to foster mindful communities for people in recovery from substance abuse, people struggling with life issues, supporting executives and businesses to implement mindfulness into the work environment, and much more. Recognizing that people are yearning for balance, emotional stability and a sense of community, Mindful Us endeavors to support that journey.
